FULL FLAT GRIND DROP POINT BLADE

The Mule Deer’s full flat grind creates a sharp blade that skins like a dream. The classic drop point shape handles everything from caping to deboning.

With a generous belly and a long cutting edge, this blade excels at the sweeping cuts needed for skinning and maintains enough tip for detail work. The full flat grind means there’s no bevel line to hang up on hides; just smooth, efficient cuts from heel to tip. At nine inches overall, you’ve got enough blade to work with but not so much that you need to sacrifice control.

IMPROVED SHARPENING CHOIL & SCULPTED FINGER GUARD

We redesigned the sharpening choil and finger guard for superior field performance.

Tight, straight-down choils can catch on hides and guts during critical slices, while inadequate guards allow fingers to ride up onto the blade during heavy cuts—especially when you're cold, fatigued, or working fast. The Mule Deer's swept-forward choil eliminates hang-ups while still providing a defined stopping point for sharpening, and the generous, fully sculpted finger guard drops down from the handle for added safety and control.

Unlike guards that are simply part of the blade, the Mule Deer's guard is integrated into the handle itself, creating a seamless transition that enhances both safety and comfort. These subtle improvements make a real difference when you're elbow-deep in an animal and need every cut to flow smoothly.

The sheath features a built-in retention screw that customizes blade tension and allows for handle-down carrying.     Awesome knife

    Waited a few months for this drop. This is my first MKC knife and I’m very happy with my purchase. Quality is exceptional and what you would expect from a high quality knife. I’m sold on MKC’s quality and will definitely be buying more. Looking forward to using it this hunting season.

    CONS-

    -knife arrived with two scratch's on the left side of the blade. Purely cosmetic and will not hinder performance but surprised QC let it past for a knife of this price and quality.

    -while handle hardware is great fit, would prefer a more matte finish on a hunting knife.

    -blade just seems too plain. Maybe have more angles ground in similar to the Rocker would give it a better visual appeal. Or add some serration grip on the spine/heel area.

    -leather sheath is separate purchase.

    Pros-

    -Very balanced knife. Fits in the hand naturally and truly feels like an extension of it.

    -G10 feels great with just the right amount of texture and the control areas cut on each side near the front of the handle adds to the control of the knife in different positions.

    -stonewash give the blade just the right amount of matte appearance.

    -EXCELLENT sharp edge.

    - while I prefer the look and function of a leather sheath, the kydex sheath is amazing in its own regard. It reduces bulk, knife fits firm and option to change from horizontal carry to vertical carry is appealing.

    MKC Got the Mule Deer Knife Correct!

    I was looking to fill the gap between smaller knives for internal work, and larger general purpose hunting knives. The MKC Mule Deer fits that gap. The length and shape of blade is perfect for me for field dressing, skinning and meat processing. The contoured handle is smooth, without hot spots in both traditional hold and inverted for cutting upward through a sternum. It is not a feather weight pack knife, nor is it a bushcraft beast. No thumb jimping, which is fine for me. I don't see the need, and always hard to clean. The small choil is definitely a bonus for anyone who has ever almost thrown a back out getting it stuck on a sternum. The kydex sheath is also a winner, with a solid and positive click-fit into position and a thumb platform that enables a positive and save removal of the knife. I wish the Packout Skinner and Freezeout were similar. I like it so much, it bumped a few other well-respected knives off my Archery Bear pack list. Putting it to field use starting in late August '26.
