Our knives were made to be used. Hard. They were crafted to get dirty, bloody, scratched, and worn. But after enough use and abuse, even the best knives can lose their edge.

We believe our customers deserve the best possible experience in the field--and that means having a sharp, well-maintained, dependable knife ready for any task. That’s why we’re proud to offer our Generations® program.

Generations® is our promise to restore your knife to its original, unmatched working condition. MKC will clean, sharpen, repair, and even reshape your blades when necessary, as well as rewrapping handles.
Free of charge.

While we perform all necessary sharpening and maintenance, our aim is not to return your knife to its brand new appearance. 

That’s because your knife is more than a tool. When you first open that MKC box, it’s a blank page. Every knick, scratch, and sign of wear tells a story of its use--stories carried with your knife when you pass it on to the next generation.

We service your knife to make it as dependable as ever, all while preserving its unique character.

Here’s how it works…

  1. Select Your Blade
    1. On the Generations® page, select your MKC blade from the dropdown menu.
  2. Checkout
    1. Complete the free online checkout process.
  3. Fill Out The Form 
    1. Print and fill out the knife information form. DOWNLOAD FORM HERE
  4. Package and Ship
    1. Package up your knife (in its sheath) and completed knife information form and mail it to us via USPS. SHIPPING ADDRESS:

That’s it! Within 2-3 business days, we’ll service your knife, cover return shipping cost, and ship it back to you in brand new packaging.

Generations® FAQs

  • What’s the cost?
    • Generations® is free for all MKC knives. You only pay shipping costs to send us your knife. We cover the cost of all sharpening, maintenance, and return shipping. 
  • What will you do to my knife?
    • In addition to sharpening your knife, we will thoroughly clean it — removing all dirt, blood, and hair. We inspect all knives and replace any worn or missing screws. In cases of broken or chipped tips, we’ll reshape the blade if necessary. All Speedgoat handles will be rewrapped with new paracord.
  • Why are you doing this?
    • We stand behind the quality of our blades, and we stand behind our knife owners. We want all our knives, both new and old, to be in the best condition possible at the start of every season.
  • What if I don't know what knife I have?
    • If you’ve forgotten the name of your knife and can’t find the original information card that came with it, simply browse the blades on our website to identify your knife. If you’re still having trouble, don’t hesitate to contact us.
  • How should I ship it?
    • Please ship your knife using USPS

  • Do I need proof of purchase?
    • No. Whether you originally purchased your knife from MKC, received it as a gift, or won it off a grizzled old fur trapper in a game of poker… if it’s an MKC knife, it’s eligible for the Generations® program.
  • How long does it take?
    • After we receive your knife, give us 2-3 business days (that’s right… days, not weeks) to service your knife. Then, we’ll cover the cost of return shipping and send it back to you in a brand new MKC box.
  • Do I still have to maintain my own knife?
    • We believe every MKC knife owner should have a foundational understanding of how to maintain and sharpen their own knife. These basic skills are necessary for anyone spending significant time in the field. While we’re happy to service any of our knives, it’s not a substitute for regular, basic maintenance.
  • How is this different from your warranty?
    • We’ve been guaranteeing the quality of our knives from the start, just like we believe every American company should. Our warranty covers small issues people have with the knives, which rarely happens. The Generations® program is all about sharpening and maintenance — not defects in craftsmanship. Every MKC knife is still covered under warranty. This goes several steps further.
