Kifaru’s Aron Snyder lives for hunting sheep, goats, and other big game deep in the backcountry. When he approached us about collaborating on a design, we jumped at the opportunity. The result is the Jackstone, reflecting Aaron’s passion for the traditional Canadian belt knife.
Its lightweight build and utilitarian shape makes the Jackstone ideal for multi-day backcountry trips. The distinct leaf-shaped blade provides enough belly for skinning while maintaining a super strong tip capable of more demanding tasks. Its rounded, ergonomic handle is optimized for comfort and control. And at just 3.5 oz, the Jackstone is virtually unnoticeable when attached to your pack.
We’re honored to add the Jackstone to the Montana Knife Company family. This collaboration reflects our commitment to creating blades as unique and rugged as the people who carry them.
I ordered and used this knife for a 3rd season CO elk hunt in 2023. This knife gutted, quartered, caped (kinda I kept the full hide for a rug) and later, once the meat was secured, deboned ALL the meat from an est. 700 pound elk. After running this blade against bone, dirt, and putting an embarrassing gash in my cooler, it is still sharp enough to remove forearm hair.
I plan to use this knife for the remainder of the southeastern whitetail season to see how long the edge and blade lasts. I am very happy with my jackstone knife. The knife is expensive but it is interesting to use something that you know will out last you and be used by the next generation.
The only dig I have against the knife system is the sheath. It seemed to me that transitioning the knife from pack to belt and back was more hassle than I wanted to deal with. The knife finally ended up living in my kill kit until it was needed.
Congrats on a beautiful bull, Adam! The Jackstone was designed for field dressing in mind and glad you got to put yours to use this season already. As far as the sheath is concerned, it's definitely a tough choice to choose between carrying on a pack versus on your person. Many folks purchase an additional sheath so that they don't have to choose! Thanks for the great review!
No one knife does every job perfectly, but this knife does a lot for backcountry big game hunters. It's not just a knife with a different shape and blade angle. This knife is light weight enough to be carried on backcountry hunts and be the only blade you need. Are you hunting in a group or with youth hunters? Guiding multiple hunters? Are you going to be skinning multiple deer or elk? This should be in your kit. The shape of the knife takes pressure off the wrist and hand and the blade slices through hide and muscle with ease. This is the right tool for the job and is versatile enough to be the only knife you need on any hunt.
Thank you for the great review! The Jackstone's blade shape was specifically designed with the traditional Canadian belt knife in mind, while having some changes made to make it the perfect knife for field dressing animals. Glad you are liking yours and getting some good use out of it!
The knife is just another example of MKC quality and craftsmanship. Blessed to own a few and they never disappoint !!! MADE IN USA !!!

Used this to do every job on my whitetail kill. Was as sharp as when I started at the end.
Love hearing that! Glad the Jackstone performed well for you - even though it's a fairly new knife, it has become a shop and fan favorite for when it comes to field processing. The shape and size are perfect! Thanks for the great review!
