Introducing the MKC Traditions Knives, a special collection that brings back the classic hunting knives from my days as a custom knife maker. Each knife in this lineup features a unique desert ironwood handle, renowned for its toughness and one-of-a-kind grain patterns.

The MKC Traditions Knives showcase handles crafted from desert ironwood, a material celebrated for its hard, closed grain that repels oil, blood, and water. This ensures the handle stays clean, stable, and free from warping or cracking. We’ve outfitted three of our models: the MKC Elk Knife, the Rocker, and the Packout Skinner with these exceptional handles, each paired with a custom sheath from Francesca at Teton Leather.

Every piece of desert ironwood is unique, just like a fingerprint, offering a variety of grain patterns from burly to straight. This means no two knives are alike, giving you a one-of-a-kind tool that is both functional and visually stunning. The ironwood's natural resilience to extreme conditions makes it perfect for hunting knives.

The Packout Skinner boasts a unique, half-moon skinning blade that maximizes cutting efficiency in a minimal footprint.

This knife is all belly, providing 3.5 inches of cutting edge packed into a 3-inch blade. The sweeping curve allows for long, clean strokes, making quick work of skinning. Cam wanted a compact package that could make quick work of his favorite game including, Blacktailed-deer, Whitetail, Mule deer, Elk or bears - and the Packout delivers. 

The Packout Skinner excels at fleshing out hides in the field, where its rounded tip minimizes the risk of puncturing. This knife may be small, but it's a powerhouse of skinning efficiency.

With a Janka hardness rating of 3260, the desert ironwood is one of the hardest woods available, ensuring the handle can withstand even the most rigorous use without cracking or breaking.

The stunning grain patterns and rich color variations, ranging from honey gold to blackish brown, give each handle a unique and visually captivating aesthetic. The natural luster of the wood adds an almost glass-like shine, elevating the overall appearance.
