From Oregon Woods to Mountain Peaks
At 19, Cam picked up a bow and never looked back. Bowhunting’s physical and mental challenges sparked an interest in him that would grow into an unstoppable force. For Cam, success in the backcountry isn’t about luck — it’s about putting in the work when no one’s watching.
Every mountain he climbs and every elk he pursues adds another chapter to his story. From the Rockies’ steep terrains to Alaska’s unforgiving landscapes, Cam has proven himself in some of the most demanding hunting environments on Earth. But what sets him apart isn’t just where he hunts. It’s how he prepares.
Building the Ultimate Predator
We’ve met many dedicated hunters over the years, but Cam’s training regimen is in a league of its own. His philosophy is simple but brutal: “Lift, Run, Shoot.” That’s not just a catchy phrase. It’s his daily ritual.
Cam’s daily routine is intense: 22 miles of running, seven days a week in the weight room, and daily archery practice. No excuses, no days off.
But Cam doesn’t just run. He takes on some of the most grueling ultramarathons out there. To him, the Moab 240 and Western States 100 are proving grounds. Every mile logged and every weight lifted has one purpose: to turn Cam into the ultimate predator when that once-in-a-lifetime shot presents itself in the backcountry.
Inspiring Others to Keep Hammering
Cam’s influence extends beyond his personal achievements. His books “Backcountry Bowhunting” and “Endure” share lessons learned from decades in the field. His social media presence isn’t about showing off. It’s about showing others what’s possible when you refuse to quit.
What we admire most about Cam is how he’s elevated bowhunting into a larger endeavor. He’s shown that it’s a test of human potential, a pursuit that demands everything you’ve got and then asks for more. But despite all his accomplishments, you’ll never find him resting on his laurels. He’s always pushing, always learning, always respecting the animals and the land that make this lifestyle possible.
Why Cam Carries MKC
When we say we make working knives for working people, we mean people like Cam — those who demand the best from their gear because they demand the best from themselves. Whether he’s field dressing at the top of a mountain or processing meat for his family’s freezer, Cam needs tools as reliable and uncompromising as he is.
That’s why we’re proud to have him as part of the MKC family. His dedication to excellence and unwavering pursuit of improvement mirror everything we strive for in our knife making.
