PVD Coated Carbon Steel Blade

The Hellgate Hatchet is made from cryogenically treated 52100 high-carbon ball-bearing steel, achieving the perfect balance of edge retention, toughness, wear resistance, and easy resharpening.

The steel is also PVD coated to a matte black finish, which minimizes rust and glare.
Hair Shaving Edge

While most hatchets are primarily designed to be swung, the Hellgate can do more than brute force. We gave it the same super sharp edge as our knife blades to make it even more useful.

If you find yourself without a knife, no problem. The Hellgate’s edge acts like a curved bladed knife, allowing you to open a chest cavity and field dress an entire animal.
Multi-Use Head

The butt of the head protrudes from the handle, giving you extra steel for a variety of tasks like digging rocks and dirt, pounding tent stakes, breaking up ice, and poking your fire.

This makes the Hellgate hatchet a do-it-all tool for any task on around the campfire or when you're in the backcountry.

Bulletproof G-10 Handle Scales

The Hellgate’s handle scales are made from the same G-10 material found on many of our knives. G-10 is famous for being strong, durable, and lightweight — unmatched by any natural handle material.

It can withstand any abuse without cracking or breaking, won’t absorb blood, and provides excellent grip, even when wet. We’ve also given the base of the handle a large knob that lets you lock in your grip when swinging the hatchet.
Exclusive MKC Kydex Sheath

Each Hellgate comes with a USA Made, custom MKC Kydex sheath.

The Hellgate Hatchet sheath comes with a single-direction snap that prevents the knife from coming out of the sheath by accident and haptic feedback when sheathing or removing the blade.

    Hellgate hatchet

    I was skeptical about ordering 1 after reading reviews of it being small. I'm glad I decided to order & make my own decision. My family and I just spent 4 days backcountry camping for the 4th of July weekend, it was used every single day by everyone there!!!! It's a great addition to any collection

    Sturdy mini chopper feels great in hand

    I haven’t had the chance to put it to use chopping anything yet, but my Hellgate Hatchet has the feel of quality and sturdiness and durability that all of the knives that I’ve bought from MKC over the past year have had.

    The G10 handle scales are very comfortable, and provide a sure, positive grip. Just like they say, the edge is sharpened like a knife (although significantly thicker behind the bevel).

    I really like the security that the kydex sheath provides. It has a snap strap to keep it secured on the hatchet’s head, and the snap is very interesting because it has a directionality to it. It has to be snapped closed from the top down, and opened from the bottom up. It does a great job of securing the cutting edge.

    My First MKC Purchase and WOW

    I’ve managed to not land a Hellgate Hatchet (or any other big MKC drop for that matter) in the last two attempts. Finally got one in the final Hellgate Hatchet drop of the year. Amazing! First class fit and finish, balanced, sophisticated in its simplicity and heirloom quality. Cannot wait to get more MKC products!!!
