The MKC Traditions Knives showcase handles crafted from desert ironwood, a material celebrated for its hard, closed grain that repels oil, blood, and water. This ensures the handle stays clean, stable, and free from warping or cracking. We’ve outfitted five of our models – the Blackfoot, the Whitetail, the Stonewall, the Jackstone, and the Super Cub – with these exceptional handles, each paired with a custom sheath from Francesca at Teton Leather.

Every piece of desert ironwood is unique, just like a fingerprint, offering a variety of grain patterns from burly to straight. This means no two knives are alike, giving you a one-of-a-kind tool that is both functional and visually stunning. The ironwood's natural resilience to extreme conditions makes it perfect for hunting knives.

With a Janka hardness rating of 3260, the desert ironwood is one of the hardest woods available, ensuring the handle can withstand even the most rigorous use without cracking or breaking.

The stunning grain patterns and rich color variations, ranging from honey gold to blackish brown, give each handle a unique and visually captivating aesthetic. The natural luster of the wood adds an almost glass-like shine, elevating the overall appearance.

Compact but solid

Really like my new Blackfoot 2.0. It’s compact enough to toss in my pack or on my belt in the kydex sheath provided. It’s big enough to field dress a whitetail at dusk and I like the orange and black handle so it’s a little easier to keep track of. Overall it’s a win for me!

I see why this is the knife that started it all. Beautiful fit and finish. Perfect size and weight. And I have to mention the packaging. I literally just left it wrapped up a little while before unwrapping it. My last review mentioned wanting to get some MKC knives for friends and family. Still true, but they may have to wait for reading of the will !
